Is your Podcast website already appearing in Google Search?
If your podcast’s website is already indexed and available in the Google search results, then your podcast should already have been seen by Google and included in Google Podcasts. No Further action should be required by you.
The information below is for podcasters who are creating a new podcast or don’t have a podcast website that is indexed by Google yet.
Setup your podcast and website to be included in Google Podcasts
The following are a list of requirements for submitting your podcast to Google Podcasts.
- A website with its own domain and an HTML feed link tag for search engines
- The website and RSS feed need to be accessible to Googlebot at the URL specified in the RSS feed
- An email address that you have access to and is used with your Google account
- A minimum of at least one blog post with a podcast episode in either mp3, m4a audio format
- Make sure your podcast’s website and podcast feed are allowing Google to crawl and index them. In other words, your robots.txt file should not be blocking access to the website or podcast feed. You can check the robots.txt file by opening your web browser and typing in www.yourdomain.com/robots.txt
Submit your podcast to Google Podcasts
- In your web browser, navigate to: co/podcastportal.
- Click on “Get Started.”
- Login using your Google account.
- Click on “Add a Podcast.”
- Review and accept the Google terms of service.
- Type in your podcast only RSS feed.
- Check your email account that is the address used in your RSS feed and follow the instructions in the email you receive to verify ownership of the podcast feed.
- Click on “Publish Podcast.”
- Sit back and wait for Google to approve your podcast
Updating your podcast on Google Podcasts
Google Podcasts automatically checks for new updates to your podcast feeds every five minute. You can also try using Google PubSubHubbub hub to inform Google of your updates. Just type in your podcast feed URL in the “Topic URL” box and click on “Publish”.
